Description
From what I'm gathering, this is one of the first Saga banjos ever produced. SAGA is now a big player in musical instruments, but in the beginning they were a very small shop. This was their top of the line at the time. Not many of these top end banjos were produced, making them very hard to find today. I could only find one other example and that was offered at k.
For the one year of production these banjos were produced in Japan at the same factory that produced high quality, top of the line instruments like Gold Star banjos and other respected names. Saga, from 1979-80 made a couple different models; this one being the fanciest. Called Bella Voice because of the inlay pattern which is a clone of the Gibson Bella Voce. It has the appointments of the Gibson and includes the flat head tone ring.
Here's a description I found on line: Bella Voce inlay banjos in striped mahogany, over-height, lightweight 2.25# bell brass flathead tone ring (NOT interchangeable with any form of Gibson spec ring), multiply pot, dual coordinator rods, 2 piece steel flange, offered in parallel with the Gold Star flatheads; a thin (resonant) Paramount like mahogany resonator with binding and concentric rings on resonator, geared tuners, brass eagle claw tailpiece, nickel plating, slightly arched fingerboard on a fairly full neck, pot metal tension hoop.
Feel free to reach out questions/picture requests. As you can tell, I'm no expert, but I will try to help. This banjo was just passed on to me... I'm a guitar guy.
