Description
This listing is for an extremely rare vintage Pre War Tenor Banjo that was made in the 1920's / Roaring 20's.
Like any 100 year old banjo, this one is not perfect, but as you can see in the pictures, it really is in great shape, especially for being this old.
There is no brand or logo but the banjo looks a lot like a Bacon And Day or a Vega model.
The back of the head is stamped Jos Rogers & Son.
In 1849, Joseph Rogers Sr. migrated to the USA from Ireland and he started making the first drum heads in America.
The initials J.B.R. ( who was Joseph B Rogers and the Grandson of Joseph Rogers Sr. ) are also hand etched inside the wooden frame for the head, so the Rogers company may have actually made this banjo..
After making drum heads in the 1800's the Rogers family eventually evolved into what we know today, as The Rogers Drum Company.
So this banjo ( at least the head ) was obviously handled and probably hand built by Joseph B. Rogers.
Also notice, this is a closed back and not an open back banjo.

The vintage case is also in great shape and judging from the Olive Drab interior, I suspect it was made by Geib.
All of the hardware on the case is rusted but still intact.  We don't have a key for the lock.
The leather handle appears to be original and it's wore, but still intact.
Please realize, this is a used vintage item and no one here is a banjo player, so we know very little about the banjo.
It obviously needs a new set of strings and possible a set up.
If you know what brand this is or you have anymore information, let us know and we'll update the ad asap.
You'll rarely see a vintage banjo, or any instrument that's this old, still in very good condition, like this one.
