    Here we have a very rare and amazing 1966 Gibson Mastertone TB-500 Custom tenor banjo. Just brought in by the original owner who bought it new back in 1966. He was only able to play for about 6-7 years and his arthritis took over and the banjo has been in storage for about 50 years!
    Cosmetically a very clean instrument with a few nicks in the finish on the back of the body and some light wear and aging in some of the gold hardware as seen in the pictures. The rest of the banjo is darn near flawless with just the lightest surface wear in the frets. This banjo has quite a few miles still left to go.
    All set up with some fresh D'Adarrio tenor banjo strings .9-.30 strings and a cleaned and seasoned fretboard ready to play. Comes with the Gibson catalogue with the TB-500 model written on ot, the key to the case, and a bunch of loose strings including the empty pack we used with the fresh strings it has now.
    We will try to shoot a video down the road and I must say this banjo sounds so LOUD and amazingly full on TONE you can hear it a mile away! I have sold a few Mastertones in my time and let's face it it is considered the Cadillac of banjos. I had a hard time finding information or any of these banjos as it was only produced for 5-6 years. I have specs and dimensions if you have questions and just below is some information I found online for this vary rare tenor banjo. There is not a lot of information out there.
    INFORMATION found ONLINE:
    Maple neck and resonator, wood marquetry ornamentation on the sides and neck of the resonator, gold plated metal hardware, flat head tone ring, Gibson and crown shaped peghead inlays, ebony fingerboard with bowtie inlays. The RB-500 model was available from 1964 through 1969.
