    Description

I am listing this as a parts banjo because although the pot is original, there are many replacement components. The rim is in excellent conditioned and is stamped number 9011-1 and “pat appl for” and the decal is intact. The tone ring is a “Buck” 40-hole archtop ring made by Karl Deterichs in the 1970’s, stamped “Buck” and with the number 9. Buck tonerings are highly regarded and sought after. The two-piece flange is original and is in excellent condition All hooks and nuts are present and original. The coordinator rods and hoop are probably original.
The tailpiece is a later Prucha - Kershner replacement and the armrest is also a later replacement. The resonator is a later replacement with belt buckle marks and some scratches.
The Mahogany neck is by an unknown maker and is perfectly playable with normal relief with hearts and flowers inlays. The neck is in excellent condition, with some minor fret wear. The tuners are Waverly two band with a Schaller fifth string peg, all with ivoroid buttons. New Remo frosted head.
I have never owned or played an archtop Mastertone, but this banjo is significantly louder and brighter sounding than my 1950’s Gibson flathead with a Kulesh tone ring.
The case looks superficially like a gig bag but is really a hardshell case, well-padded and very sturdy.
