    Description

Meet “Katie”. This vintage 1922 Gibson 4 String Tenor Banjo is a rare gem for any musician or collector. With its original case included, this banjo has been well-preserved and is in excellent shape. The brand, Gibson, is known for producing high-quality instruments, and this tenor banjo is no exception. The banjo type is a classic tenor banjo, open back, with four strings, and it was made In Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1922 (from what I can find on the internet). Factory Order Number is 11652-24. Everything is original, and has always been stored in a smoke free home. One string is broken and the case shows some wear, but the latch is good. There is a tattered lesson book in the case. This instrument is perfect for anyone interested in vintage musical instruments.
Katie’s original owner was our Great Uncle Alva. He received a new banjo when he was a high school student in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and named her Katie. He wrote her name inside the banjo. By all accounts, Alva was a great guy- smart, athletic, musically gifted, and just plain fun to be around. Tragically, Alva was fatally injured in a high school football game and passed away in November 1924. His mother, Mary, put Katie away in a closet, never to be played again. 100 years is too long to be alone, and it is our wish to find Katie a home with someone who will love her as much as Alva did.
Thanks for taking the time to read about Katie! Please feel free to ask any questions or for more photos.
