    Description

Travel back in time with this
"Concertone" tenor banjo. Made in Chicago, Illinois by Slingerland. The serial number is stamped on the inside of the pot is 224,116. Though Slingerland is best known as a drum manufacturer, it started out as a banjo maker. I'm reasonably guessing it's from the 1920s, but it could be the 1930s.
Cosmetically, it looks quite good. Bound neck. Grover bridge. Remo replacement head. The pot has a checkerboard parquet pattern around the lower edge. 20 hooks. The fingerboard is so dark that it may be ebony, but maybe it's just a very dark rosewood. Nut looks like bone to me. Mother of pearl dot markers. Frets and fretboard are in fine condition.
It comes in its original hard case.
The two case buckle clasps works fine, but the middle locking clasp is stuck in a locked position. The two buckle clasps keep the case shut securely.
It's a great All-American banjo, ready for its next owner.
